STRAIGHT TO THE HEART

In a quest to better myself wholly, I determined that my efforts had to include the nurture of the spirit, which I admit has seen better days. Partly because I have neglected the scriptures, and partly for other neglects which I hope to rectify. To correct this error, I have promised to read the scriptures every day with the hope that reading will evolve into a desire to study, which will evolve into a strength of character I haven't enjoyed for years.

This morning I was determined to answer a question that has been on my mind since a recent temple visit. Which is; What is meant by "the blood and sins of this generation?" And why are we accountable for sins that are not our own?

Our second article of faith teaches us that man cannot be punished for Adam's transgression. In that, we learn that we are each responsible only for our own sins. Yet, in the temple, we learn that we must be cleansed from the blood and sins of this generation. So if we are accountable only for our own sins, what are these generational sins we are guilty of should we not become properly cleansed?

I found my answer, or at least a beginning, in the following address by President Ezra Taft Benson. It has stirred my heart in a way that hasn't been felt since my inner conversion to the gospel of Christ many years ago. I encourage you to read it and let your heart be stirred into action.

America at the Crossroads

As I read this article I had to go back to the header to remind myself it was written over 30 years ago--it sounds like it was written today! I'm so glad President Benson included things we can do to more fully live up to our covenants and potential. I, for one, am very guilty of wasting time. I think I'll start keeping a personal calendar so that I have a visual reminder that my time needs to be spent in more productive undertakings. How thankful I am for prophets! Thank you for pointing out this article--if I ever read it I sure don't remember, but I'm glad to have the opportunity to read it now.

I haven't read the article yet, but I'll get to it. Right now I'm reading your story which I am enjoying.

Where did you get this template? I didn't see it offered.

I googled blogger templates and found this one. I liked the colors but am a little uncomfortable with the immodest dress of the lady. I'll change it when I find another one I like.
